Our Business

TAX employs over 1,000 employees at various locations throughout Virginia and the country. Within Virginia, TAX maintains three locations. We are headquartered in the Main Street Centre located in downtown Richmond. TAX employees are also located in California, throughout the Midwest, and up and down the east coast.

The agency administers 30 state taxes, all of which can be classified into one of three categories: income taxes, sales and use taxes, and miscellaneous taxes such as corn, cotton, tire and egg taxes. Money collected from the administration of these taxes is allocated to the state's budget and distributed to finance other state and local services such as education and transportation provided to Virginians by the Commonwealth.
