Appointment of Railroad/Pipeline Appraisal Manager

The Department of Taxation announces the appointment of David Jordan to the newly-created position of Railroad and Pipeline Appraisal Manager.

Jordan's new position came about as a result of the department's designation, beginning in 1984, as the central state agency for assessing the real and personal property of railroads, freight car companies and interstate pipeline transmission companies. Formerly this responsibility was held by the State Corporation Commission.

As railroad/pipeline appraisal manager, Jordan will be responsible for administering the taxation of railroads and car companies, which are subject to the state tax on rolling stock. All other railroad and interstate pipeline property is taxed at the local level.

Jordan joined the Tax Department five years ago and has served most recently as appraisal supervisor in the Property Tax Division. Prior to joining state government he had several years of experience in property tax administration on the local level.

More information on the agency's railroad/pipeline assessment responsibility may be acquired by contacting Jordan at (804) 257-6499.
