What You Need to Know Before Filing Your Virginia Individual Income Taxes: Increased Standard Deduction

This year’s filing season has begun. There’s one big change you need to know about before preparing your 2019 Virginia individual income tax return.

Due to changes in federal tax laws, the Virginia standard deduction increased to $4,500 for taxpayers filing single and married taxpayers filing separately. If you’re married and filing a joint return, your standard deduction increased to $9,000.
