Our Online Services Are Changing
Starting this fall, our online services are changing. When we're done with the transition, you'll be able to file, pay, and manage all of your taxes in one place. This will be a 4-year implementation process, with different taxes moving to our new Online Services platform each year. We'll be maintaining multiple systems for a few years. Our goal is to minimize disruptions during this transition as we improve and modernize our systems.
What to Expect This Fall
Businesses will try our new Online Services platform first in September. Starting November 9, businesses will no longer be able to file and pay certain taxes, like sales & use and withholding taxes, in our existing online services platform (iFile). Other online filing options, including eForms and Web Upload will continue to be available on our website. We encourage impacted businesses to start using the new Online Services platform in September to get used to the new system.
Labor Day Weekend: Scheduled Outage
To prepare for the release of our new Online Services platform, our online filing and payment applications will be unavailable starting Saturday, September 5. Services will be restored on Tuesday, September 8, at 7:00am.
During this scheduled upgrade, you will not be able to make tax payments, file a return, or check your refund status on our website.
September 8, 2026: New Online Experience Available
Businesses and their tax preparers will be able to transition existing online accounts to our new Online Services platform to file the following taxes:
- Sales taxes
- Employer withholding taxes
- Vending machine dealer's taxes
- Digital media fees
- Tire recycling fees
Additional changes:
- New businesses that need to register with us will do so using our new Online Services platform. Please note, online business registration will be temporarily unavailable on September 1 to prepare for the transition.
- All businesses will use the new Online Services platform to make changes to their Virginia Tax business accounts.
- All businesses will use the new Online Services platform to make payments on bills they've received from us.
- Tax professionals with an existing tax preparer online account will also be able to transition their account to the new platform using their current credentials.
November 9, 2026: Here's What's Moving
Businesses who use an online account (iFile) to file or pay the following taxes will need to do so using our new Online Services platform:
- Sales taxes
- Employer withholding taxes
- Vending machine dealer's taxes
- Digital media fees
- Tire recycling fees
Other online filing options including eForms and Web Upload will continue to be available on our website.
Other Things to Know
- If you use an ACH debit block, you'll need to add our new Company ID to your list of approved payees. Visit tax.virginia.gov/debit-block for instructions.
- To ensure a smooth transition to our new Online Services platform, our phone representatives are currently limited in how much they are able to assist business callers. We will resume normal activity after the transition to our new system is complete on Tuesday, September 8.
What's Coming Later
Once we've moved sales and withholding taxes to the new platform, we'll begin transitioning other taxes.
Later rollouts will include:
- Corporate income tax
- Pass-through entity income tax (PTE)
- Individual income tax
- Other miscellaneous taxes
Check back for further updates, details, and resources about this transition.
